Florida Pioneers Picnic - Monday, March 6, 2017
Reservations have been made for annual RG&E Emeritus Reunion Picnic.
This year it will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017 at:
Lake Seminole Park, Shelter # 5
10015 Park Boulevard
Seminole, Florida
From 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM
Please Note:  This is the same shelter used in previous years.
For this event we are planning a format similar to the one used for the last few years where each person, couple or group should bring their own food, drink and table service. Grills are available for anyone interested in cooking their own hots, burgers or sausages. Charcoal will be supplied.

The event is open to all retired and former RG&E employees.  Immediate family members and interested current employees are welcome, too

Everyone attending should also be aware that alcoholic beverages are not permitted in the park.

We are counting on RG&E to continue contributing toward our expenses.
If that policy has been unexpectedly modified or eliminated we may have to ask for a small contribution of perhaps a dollar or two from each attendee. Hopefully, that will not be necessary.

Volunteers interested in helping are welcome. Suggestions to improve the format are also encouraged.

The annual Florida picnic is a great time to renew acquaintances with old friends and former co-workers. Help share family developments and work experiences. Some of these stories, especially those from work, can be quite hilarious. Hope to see everyone there.

PICTURES

I received good feedback on the photos, so this method seems to be working out. I have a few more photos to share that folks have passed along.

Pictures from Joe DiTucci
Joe shared a couple of photos from old picnics. I scanned them in with his post-it notes of who folks are. The last photo we think in the back row is George Spillman, Manny Valenza, ?, Mario Pallone, Ted Camelio, ?. In the front row is Larry Mandel, Bob Dinehart and Art Lake. If you zoom in you can read some of the nametags.

Pictures of Old Front Street - care of Dave Payne
Here was his message to me:
Hi Molly,
Years ago, when Carl Warn was retiring, he gave me some old photos given to him by the photographer, Al Perry.  Al worked in Line Maintenance for years.  He actually was the photographer at my wedding in October, 1975.  He took the attached pictures circa late 1940's / early 1950's at Front Street.  I believe most are in the Electric Distribution and Line Maintenance areas.  Of course, the Front Street offices were all very close.  There probably are not many people left that will remember, but I just thought I would get them out there so they wouldn't be lost over time.  Maybe you could insert them into the Pioneers of RG&E Newsletter.
Thank you for taking the time to keep the Newsletter going.
Happy New Year,
David Payne

Harry W. Buss
It is will sadness I'm reporting the passing of my Dad, Harry W. Buss, on December 11, 2016. He lived a good life until 94 years old! Dad worked for RG&E for 40 years until his retirement in 1982. I am enclosing the obituary for Dad which will be in the Democrat and Chronicle sometime in January, 2017. Please share this information with others who might have known Harry. Dad and I looked forward to reading the Pioneer newsletter and getting updates on those he knew who had also retired. Judy Dixon (daughter)

If you know of folks that should be getting this newsletter - have them check their spam or junk folders. I have come across a few that we send to, request that I put their email in, but they never open them, so I assume they are caught up in spam.
